C. (§11.3) Maritime Torts Defined

Maritime torts are civil wrongs that are committed on the high seas or other navigable waters and that come within the admiralty jurisdiction of the federal district courts. Torts that occur on land or an extension of land, such as a pier, wharf, bridge, or other structure permanently attached to the shore or bed of a watercourse, are not traditionally considered maritime in character.
