a. (§1.41) Retaining Clients

Every lawyer is concerned about the shape and the future of his or her practice. All lawyers wish to preserve their relationships with their clients. It is only natural then, when considering referring a case to any specialist, to ask “will I get the client back?” The answer is “yes.” No appellate attorney will try to recruit general practice clients from the people who come for appeals. That would be the quickest way to kill off referrals. Appellate lawyers want to build an appellate practice, not keep another lawyer’s client.
