Section 1.4.1 The Court's Function

The courts are charged with the duty of interpreting and determining the rights created under the lien laws.¹⁰ When interpreting lien laws, the courts look to the intentions of the Legislature and attempt to give reasonable meaning to the language used. Interpretation is aided by examination of the language used throughout the statute for consistency of purpose.¹¹
