Sciarrotta - 40-year department vet - appointed taxation division's acting director.

The state Treasury Department officially announced Oct. 17 that Marita Sciarrotta, a 40-year career public servant whose entire work history has been with the Division of Taxation, has been appointed to lead that office.

Sciarrotta's promotion to acting director took effect Sept. 25. She most recently served as deputy director of the Division of Taxation, overseeing Collection and Enforcement, Data Systems and Taxpayer Services Activities.

Her remarkable career with the office began in high school, working part-time performing clerical work, which set the stage for a progression through different departments and roles.

During that time, she has been an expert in multiple tax types and played a critical role in a number of important programs and initiatives, such as:

The creation of Taxation University;

Directing outreach to Superstorm Sandy victims; and

Creating the administrative infrastructure to execute the state's health care insurance mandate.

Most recently, Sciarrotta was the driving force behind the successful administration of the state's inaugural ANCHOR property tax benefit program, its marketing campaign, outreach events and clinics.

In a press release announcing the promotion, State Treasurer Elizabeth Maher Muoio said that Sciarrotta's passion for public service shines in everything she does.
