Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health
Study Biospecimen Access (NIDA)
Scope: The National Institute on Drug Abuse seeks
(X01) resource access award applications for the
Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH)
Study Biospecimen Access announcement to provide
the scientic community with biospecimens (urine,
plasma, serum and genomic DNA) and related research
data on behaviors, attitudes, biomarkers and health
outcomes associated with tobacco use in the United
States.
Deadline: April 30, 2021; Oct. 29, 2021; and April 29,
2022.
Funds: The total number of projects granted access

School absenteeism—Estimating inuenza
and SARS-CoV-2 transmission (CDC)
Scope: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
seeks applications for the Monitoring Cause-specic
School Absenteeism for Estimating Community-wide
Inuenza and SARS-CoV-2 Transmission announcement
to support a research project that implements an
inuenza-like-illness (ILI)–specic student absentee
monitoring system in kindergarten through 12th-
grade (K–12) schools and assesses its usability for
early detection of inuenza, SARS-CoV-2 and other
respiratory pathogen transmission in schools and
surrounding communities.
Deadline: Dec. 18, 2020.
Funds: $3 million total for one award.
Eligibility: Colleges and universities; for-prot
organizations, including small businesses; nonprot
organizations; state, local, special district and Native
American tribal governments; and independent school
districts; among others.
Areas: CDC said the project team will: (1) rapidly
determine the causes of school absenteeism in students
across selected school district(s) over a three-year
period, (2) detect within-household transmission of
inuenza and SARS-CoV-2 in a subset of households
from which a student has been absent from school due
to ILI and (3) assess comparability between inuenza-
specic and SARS-CoV-2-specic student absenteeism
data from the participating schools and multiple layers of
complementary inuenza and SARS-CoV-2 surveillance
data routinely collected in the health care facilities
serving the general population of the school district.

Rural Health Care Services Outreach Program
(HRSA)
Scope: The Health Resources and Services
Administration seeks applications for the Rural Health
Care Services Outreach Program announcement, a
program aimed toward promoting rural health care
services by enhancing health care delivery to rural
underserved populations in the local community or

related to the specic health needs in rural areas
that expand clinical and service capacity in rural
communities. The overarching goals for the program
are to: expand the delivery of health care services to
include new and enhanced services exclusively in rural
communities; deliver health care services through a
strong consortium, in which every consortium member
organization is actively involved and engaged in the
planning and delivery of services; utilize community
engagement and evidence-based or innovative,
evidence-informed model(s) in the delivery of health
care services; and improve population health and
demonstrate health outcomes and sustainability.
