Santa Clara Valley hosts 14th Annual Software/E-Commerce Day.

On May 11, 2010, the Santa Clara Valley TEI Chapter hosted the 14th Annual Software/ E-Commerce Day in conjunction with the law firm of Baker & McKenzie. The meeting was held at Oracle Corporation's conference center in Redwood Shores, California.

Software/E-Commerce Day attracted 132 registrants, and was coordinated by Gary Sprague of Baker's Palo Alto office and Oracle's Richard M. Hoag, a long-time member of the Santa Clara Valley Chapter. More than 15 Baker & McKenzie attorneys and economists from around the world participated in educational session on various topics, including revenue characterization developments, planning responses to Obama Phase II, challenging jurisdictions, disclosure of uncertain tax positions, cloud computing, and current US and foreign tax controversy issues. Timothy McCormally, TEI's Executive Director, gave an update on TEI activities as the luncheon speaker.

At the morning break, Donald Rath of Synopsys, the chapter's president, and Mr. McCormally, presented the Institute's first Pro Bono Award to Alan Sankin, Vice President, Taxes at Dolby Laboratories. Mr. Sankin was recognized for his services to Lawyers For One America (LFOA), a section 501(c)(3) organization located in San Rafael, CA, which provides "civil pro bono legal services to underserved communities in Northern California so that disadvantaged individuals and micro-businesses may gain economic self-sufficiency to combat community deterioration."
