Santa Clara Valley Chapter hosts joint IRS-TEI commercial awareness session.

On June 21, members of TEI's Santa Clara Valley Chapters and representatives of the Internal Revenue Service's San Jose office convened at the IRS's San Jose building to discuss certain key issues and initiatives facing the IRS, especially the Large Business & International Division, and the taxpayer community.

Tony Shabazz was the key coordinator and moderator from the IRS, and he began the meeting by introducing Cheryl Claybough who recently replaced Pat Chaback as Industry Director (Communications, Technology, and Media). Ms. Claybough briefly discussed the mission, key initiatives, and goals of the CTM division. Mr. Shabazz next discussed roles and responsibilities of the various members of the LB&I Examination Team, followed by Sarah LaSpina who covered the audit selection and audit process for Coordinated Industry Cases (CIC) and Industry Cases (IC). Dave Couch wrapped up the IRS presentation by discussing the overall audit process from planning to resolution.

Next up was the TEI presentation, led by Brain Dulkie who discussed the practical considerations in designing ERP general ledger systems and the decisions managers consider when setting up the cost and profit centers within the ERP system. John Hagan followed with an overview of the general ledger, chart of accounts, consolidated reporting, and intercompany eliminations, followed by a business knowledge example that explains and identifies issues that could be industry related.
