On October 20, 2009, TEI's Santa Clara Valley Chapter hosted tits 22d Annual International Tax Day in conjunction with Baker & McKenzie. The program attracted 185 registrants, approximately two-thirds of whom were chapter members. International Tax Day is one of the most popular seminars presented by the chapter. More than 25 Baker & McKenzie attorneys from around the world participated in the program, which was moderated by Robin Chesler and Christian Broderson of the firm's Palo Alto and Frankfurt offices. Among the topics covered during the program were the following: Planning for Obama Tax Proposals, PE Risks and Developments, Tax Incentives Update, New European VAT Issues, International Tax Controversy in the United States, Key Issues in Managing Tax Audits around the World, and Local Country Tax Breaks to Fight the Global Economic Crisis. In addition, there were regional breakouts sessions covering Asia, Europe, India, Mexico, and Canada.

At the morning break, the Chapter presented the Institute's Meritorious Chapter Service Award to Deborah Lange. Ms. Lange started her career with Arthur Andersen & Co. in 1979, working in the firm's London, Portland, Hong Kong, and San Jose offices.
