Like the Traveling Pants novels, this story involves friends who band together and initiate a bit of mythic folk tradition to find the boys they are destined to meet. The three 16-year-old girls find themselves without boyfriends for the same reason--their fathers. Meryl's father is the vice principal of discipline at the local high school; Caressa's father is a famous musician; and Lila's father is the chief of police in White Peaks, Colorado.

Told in the first person alternately by each of the three girls, the primary narrator is Lila, the rebel, who ends up grounded, without a driver's license and enrolled in a Junior Police program. Her narration is filled with slang, sarcasm and pop references and her perspective takes up more of the novel than the points of view of the other two. Meryl proposes that...
