Chinook salmon off the coast of California and most of Oregon are safe this year from commercial and recreational fishermen. The Pacific Fishery Management Council voted to cancel the fishing season to reverse the catastrophic disappearance of the fish. Too few fall-run salmon came back to spawn in the Sacramento River and its tributaries last fall.
