S.C. State Museum achieves national accreditation.

The S.C.State Museum has again achieved accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums, keeping intact national recognition it first earned in 1993.

Of the nation's estimated 33,000 museums, around 1070 are currently accredited, according to a news release from the museum. That includes 10% of the nation's multidisciplinary museums and just 7% of state-governed museums.

Founded in 1906 and awarding accreditation for more than 45 years, the alliance is a network of museums designed to develop best practices and advocacy nationwide. Museums undergo an extensive review for re-accreditation every 10 years.
