S.C. Bar offers Law School for Non-Lawyers.

The South Carolina Bar Association is offering legal classes for the public at community and technical colleges throughout the state.

Law School for Non-Lawyers classes meet once a week for three hours for seven weeks. They are taught by practicing attorneys who volunteer their time and cover topics such as state courts,alternative dispute resolution, juvenile justice, child protection, family law, real estate and landlord/tenant law and wills. Participants can also learn about estates and probate, health care and elder law, state workers' compensation law, employment law, bankruptcy law, consumer law and debt collection, criminal law and tort law.

"The idea was to give members of the general public a better understanding of the court system in South Carolina," said Cindy Coker, public services director for the S.C. Bar.
