Roy, Olivier. The Politics of Chaos in the Middle East. New York: Columbia University Press, 2008. 167 pp.

Olivier Roy is indeed acknowledged as one of France's leading scholars on Islam and the Moslem World. His book is a criticism of the failed policies of the West and particularly the administration, of George W. Bush in the Near East. He believes that American policy in the post September 11 attack totally and completely misunderstood the threat posed by Islamic fundamentalism.

Roy continues to advocate that both leftist and rightist "ideas and programs" about democracy and human (liberal) rights are illusonary in that region of the world.
