Robert Kevane wins Public Service Award.

For a lifetime devoted to the betterment of his community, Robert "Bob" Kevane, CPA, is CalCPA's 2006 Public Service Award winner.

La Mesa-based Kevane has divided his professional time between a sole practitioner accounting firm and The Kevane Company, Inc., where he has been a Realtor and licensed real estate broker, since 1975. In addition, Kevane has worked in real estate development since 1966 and also owns and manages a number of apartment complexes in San Diego County.

Since 1992, Kevane has participated in CalCPA Government Relations Committee's Action Network, and has given several presentations at area high schools as part of CalCPA's student outreach program. He also has served on the AICPA's Government Relations Committee since 1992.

But it's his dedication to the community that speaks to the spirit of this award.

Since 1969, Kevane has been a board member of the Saint Augustine High School Alumni Association, where he is treasurer. He serves on the school's Facilities Development Committee, and for the last two years has worked to raise funds for a new campus. He also has served the school on its board of trustees and as chair of the Campaign Cabinet-Endowment & Capital Development Program.

Kevane has been a foundation board member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of East County since 1995, serving as president (2001-03) and vice president (1999-01). Under Kevane's leadership, which totals about 25 hours a month, the club has significantly increased its liquid assets and expanded and improved several clubhouses.
