Rights for the Assembly's Agenda.

WHEN THE OAS General Assembly convenes June 7 in Guatemala, it will take up a range of issues that are critical to the Americas. The hemisphere's foreign ministers will consider matters related to strengthening peace and security, furthering democracy, promoting free speech, combating illegal drugs and corruption, and protecting human rights. They will also cast their votes for secretary general.

Included on the agenda is a progress report on the development of a future American Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Government experts from around the hemisphere met in Washington in February to continue work on the declaration, proposed by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights after consultation with OAS member states and organizations such as the Inter-American Indian...
