2001 Special Olympics Alaska

Paul Landes, GCI's vice president of marketing, was named president of the 2001 Special Olympics Alaska board of directors. The board also appointed new executive officers recently to serve this year. Landes is serving his third year on the organization's board. Other members elected to the 2001 executive committee include: President-Elect Mike Flanigan, director of sales and marketing for the Hotel Captain Cook; Treasurer Cynthia Matson, associate vice chancellor, budget and finance, University of Alaska Anchorage; Secretary Rebecca Logan, owner of O'Brady's Burger & Brew on Dimond Boulevard.

The Alaska Club

The Alaska Club Network promoted Phil Murray to operations manager for The Alaska Club South and The Alaska Club Midtown. Murray has been with the club since 1999. Darryl Davis was promoted to operations manager at The Alaska Club Eagle River. Davis will maintain his responsibilities as member services director for The Alaska Club Network. He has been with the club since 1994. The network of clubs was recently recognized by Fitness Management Magazine for business innovation. The group has won the award for the second year in a row.

Klukwan Inc.

Klukwan Inc., a Southeast Alaska village corporation, selected Richard N. Ransdell as vice president and chief financial officer. He will direct financial planning, treasury operations, accounting and management information systems for the corporation, its subsidiaries and three separate trusts. He was hired as controller for the corporation in 1999. Klukwan also has announced the appointment of Bill Fletcher as the new president of their tourism subsidiary, Chilkats' Portage Cove Development Co. This subsidiary operates as Chilkat Cruises & Tours and is based in Haines. Fletcher has led the CCT operation since being hired as vice president in 1999.

Division of Oil and Gas

Mark Myers, a petroleum geologist with more than 17 years of experience in Alaska, was named director of the state Division of Oil and Gas. Myers is a former employee with the division and succeeds Ken Boyd, who resigned after nearly six years as director. Myers studied geology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees. He earned his doctorate degree in geology from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1994.
