1999 Minority Small Business Person of the Year
The Small Business Administration Alaska District Office has selected Andrew J. Kwon, president of M.C. Corp., as the 1999 Alaska Minority Small Business Person of the Year. Kwon took over the corporation in 1993 when his parents asked for his assistance in turning around a failing company. He diversified the revenue base by using government contracts as the linchpin.

J. Todd Heesch joined PDC Inc. Consulting Engineers as a mechanical engineer. He is a graduate of the University of Kentucky. John T. Stricklan joined PDC as a civil and environmental quality engineer. He is a graduate of Auburn University and the University of Alaska.
Anchorage Chamber of Commerce
The Anchorage Chamber of Commerce was named Alaska's Chamber of the Year recently by the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce.

First National Bank
Jinglei (Larry) Chen was promoted to information systems manager at First National Bank in Anchorage. Marty Miller, First National Bank assistant vice president, was appointed Alaska's representative for the Veteran of Foreign Wars Legislative Committee in Alaska and Washington, D.C.

At a recent annual shareholders meeting in Seattle, incumbents Cheryl Demmert Fairbanks and Peter J. Egan were re-elected to the board of directors for The 13th Regional Corp. Derek J. Kolar was elected to the third seat on the management team.
Alaska Native Medical Center
The Public Health Service awarded Alaska Native Medical Center Director Richard Mandsager, M.D., with its highest award for a commissioned officer, the Distinguished Service Medal. The award was presented at a board meeting of the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium.
