2000 Alaska Teacher of the Year

Commissioner of Education and Early Development Rick Cross named four finalists for the year 2000 Alaska Teacher of the Year honor. They are: Patricia Lee Gilbert, a science and math teacher at Wrangell High School; Ron Lange, a choral music teacher at Chugiak High School; Marilyn Rosene, a fifth grade teacher at Dillingham Elementary School; and Kathryn Yahr, a kindergarten through fourth grade teacher at Twin Hills School in Togiak (based in Dillingham).

The Color of Gold

The 3-D stereoscopic documentary film, The Color of Gold, has received a silver medal.

Written, produced and directed by Alaskan filmmaker Jan Welt, the unique stereoscopic documentary had a dual Lower 48 premiere last month. The same week it was the featured attraction at the Rhode Island Film Festival in Newport, it won a silver medal at the Annual Stereoscopic Film Festival in Los Angeles. The film is a celebration of the centennials of the Alaska and Klondike gold rushes.
