Funds: $55 million total for awards ranging from
$300,000 to $9 million.
Eligibility: HBCUs that are accredited and offer
undergraduate educational degree programs in STEM.
Areas: NSF said support is available through the
following tracks: Targeted Infusion Projects, which
provide support to achieve a short-term, well-dened
goal for improving the quality of undergraduate
STEM education at HBCUs; Broadening Participation
Research in STEM Education projects, which provide
support for research that seeks to create and study new
theory-driven models and innovations related to the
participation and success of underrepresented groups in
STEM undergraduate education; and Research Initiation
Awards, which provide support for STEM faculty with
no prior or recent research funding to pursue research
at the home institution, an NSF-funded research center,
a research-intensive institution or a national laboratory;
among others.

Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program
(USDA)
Scope: The Agriculture Department’s National Institute
of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) seeks applications for
the Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program to
increase the purchase of fruits and vegetables among
low-income consumers participating in the Supplemental
Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by providing
incentives at the point of purchase.
Deadline: May 18, 2020.
Funds: $41.5 million total for up to 50 awards.
Eligibility: Government agencies and nonprot
organizations may include: an emergency feeding
organization; an agricultural cooperative; a producer
network or association; a community health
organization; a public benet corporation; an economic
development corporation; a farmers market; a
community-supported agriculture program; a buying
club; a SNAP-authorized retailer (rm); and state, local
or Native American tribal agencies.
Areas: USDA said NIFA will give priority to projects
that: maximize the share of funds used for direct
incentives to participants, use direct-to-consumer sales
marketing; demonstrate a track record of designing and
implementing successful nutrition incentive programs
that connect low-income consumers and agricultural
producers, provide locally or regionally produced fruits
and vegetables and include a project design (1) that
provides incentives when fruits or vegetables are
purchased using SNAP benets and (2) in which the
incentives earned may be used only to purchase fruits
or vegetables, among others.

Revolving Fund Program (USDA)
Scope: The Agriculture Department’s Rural Utilities
Service seeks applications for the Revolving Fund
Program to help create revolving loan funds that can
provide nancing to extend and improve water and
waste disposal systems in rural areas.
Deadline: June 12, 2020.
Funds: $1 million total for up to four awards.
Eligibility: Nonprot organizations and state and local
governments.
Areas: USDA said this program helps very small
communities extend and improve water and waste
treatment facilities for households and businesses. Good
practices can save tax dollars and improve the natural
environment and may be necessary for manufacturers
and other types of businesses to locate or expand
operations.

Local Food Promotion Program (USDA)
Scope: The Agriculture Department’s Agricultural
Marketing Service seeks applications for the Local
Food Promotion Program to develop, coordinate and
expand local and regional food business enterprises
that engage as intermediaries in indirect producer-to-
consumer marketing to help increase access to and
availability of locally and regionally produced agricultural
products.
Deadline: May 11, 2020.
Funds: $13.5 million total for up to 60 awards ranging
from $25,000 to $500,000. A 25% match is required.
Eligibility: Domestic entities owned, operated and
located within the 50 U.S. states, the District of
Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth
of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Commonwealth of
Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands to be considered
eligible.
Areas: USDA said grants can be used for the planning
stages of establishing or expanding a local and regional
food business enterprise or to improve or expand a food
business that supports locally and regionally produced
agricultural products and food system infrastructure by
performing feasibility studies, market research, training
and technical assistance for the business enterprise
and/or for producers working with the business
enterprise.
