The man makes the uniform; the uniform doesn't make the man" is one of the long-held truisms of sports. The same cannot be said of athletic equipment. Over the last 20 years especially, there's been a major revolution taking place in which equipment across all sports boundaries has improved dramatically. Hockey and football equipment is lighter, stronger, and more flexible.

Tennis racquets--and their once-tiny sweet spot--have grown tremendously, while the racquet itself weighs next to nothing. Even today's baseball uniforms are made of lightweight material--the heavy flannel jerseys of yesteryear having been relegated to the memorabilia market.

Golf clubs, too, like the tennis racquet, have wider sweet spots, bigger heads, and practically no corresponding weight. Yet, what about the golf glove? When will it, too, join the revolution.
