A Georgetown University professor recently argued that, out of necessity, a new "transatlantic security network" is replacing the established alliances such as NATO and the United Nations.

The "establishment" school of thought "is convinced that NATO will remain the centerpiece of the transatlantic security relationship, said Chantal de Jonge Oudraat, in a new report published by the Washington-based American Institute for Contemporary German Studies, at the Johns Hopkins University.
