There were two revelations from last month's sneak preview of the new HBO series "K Street," held at Washington's Palm restaurant. The first occurred when the guests--including former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, former White House press secretary Art Fleischer, Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan, "Meet the Press" host Tim Russert, Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe, and television correspondents Norah O'Donnell, Andrea Mitchell, and Dana Bash--got a look at the series' co-executive producer, George Clooney. Like that other heartthrob activist/actor who likes to get behind the camera, Robert Redford, it turns out that Clooney is shorter than he seems on the screen, but every bit as handsome. As one gaggle of starstruck women commented on the actor's appearance, former Bill Clinton press secretary Joe Lockhart gushed, "I think beauty is something that comes from the inside."

The second revelation came when video screens set up around the restaurant played a preview of the first episode, which Clooney and his co-executive producer, Steven Soderbergh, had just finished editing a few hours earlier. The episode features James Carville and Mary Matalin...
