IRS Restructuring Discussed at New England Chapter Meeting.

On November 18, the New England Chapter of Tax Executives Institute met at Anthony's Pier IV for a program sponsored by the chapter's IRS Administrative Affairs Committee.

Gary Stein of EMC Corporation hosted a panel discussion of the IRS Restructuring Bill and current IRS policy matters. Kevin Brown, Assistant to the Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, and Stephen Daige, District Director were guest panelists.

A second panel discussion followed with representatives of the Boston District Field Audit (Large Case, International and Engineering Managers), as well as Charlie Brantley, Assistant Chief, Examination. This panel discussed ways in which the IRS and taxpayers work together in order to resolve cases.

After dinner, the New England Chapter recognized John S. Brown of the law firm Bingham Dana & Gould for his years of service to the profession and his numerous presentations to the New England Chapter of TEI. The presentation was memorable because John's son Kevin (mentioned above) and daughter Mary Brown, who is Counsel to the Massachusetts Joint Committee on Taxation, were on hand for the presentation.
