Disaster Resilience Research Grants (NSF/DOC)
Scope: The National Science Foundation and the
Commerce Department seek applications for Disaster
Resilience Research Grants to advance fundamental
understanding of disaster resilience in support of
improved, science-based planning, policy, decisions,
design, codes and standards.
Deadline: Letters of Intent, Aug. 14, 2020; proposals,
Sept. 15, 2020.
Funds: $3.1 million for eight to 12 awards ranging from
$200,000 to $400,000.
Eligibility: Unrestricted.
Areas: NSF said areas of interest include natural
disasters, projects that aim to address multihazard
resilience phenomena, processes associated with
disaster resilience, entities associated with disaster
resilience, and disaster resilience–related policies and
practices.

Restricted-Access Research Data Centers (NSF)
Scope: The National Science Foundation seeks
applications for the establishment of new Research Data
Centers (RDCs), or secure Census Bureau facilities
within which external researchers are given access
to condential microdata in accordance with specic
statutory requirements.
Deadline: Sept. 30, 2020.
Funds: Three awards expected to range between
$100,000 and $300,000 each.
Eligibility: Colleges and universities and nonprot
organizations.
Areas: NSF said proposals should address the following
topics: the cross-disciplinary and/or interdisciplinary
potential of the proposed RDC, the t of the proposed
RDC within the existing system, the readiness of the
proposed RDC, governance and resources available to
the RDC.

Division of Physics: Investigator-Initiated
Research Projects (NSF)
Scope: The National Science Foundation seeks
applications for the Division of Physics: Investigator-
Initiated Research Projects announcement to support
physics research and the preparation of future scientists
in the nation’s colleges and universities across a broad
range of physics disciplines that span scales of space
and time from the largest to the smallest and the oldest
to the youngest.
Deadline: Submission dates vary by program. See the
announcement for complete details.
Funds: $90 million for a total of 300 Investigator-Initiated
Research Projects.
Eligibility: Colleges and universities, for-prot
organizations, nonprot organizations, state and local
governments and foreign organizations.
Areas: NSF said the division is composed of
disciplinary programs covering experimental and
theoretical research in the following major subelds
of physics: atomic, molecular and optical physics;
elementary particle physics; gravitational physics;
integrative activities in physics; nuclear physics; particle
astrophysics; physics at the information frontier; physics
of living systems; plasma physics; and quantum
