In response to the arrest of a local resident for refusing to leave public land that the giant British and Australian company Rio Tinto wants to mine, four members of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community decided to take a stand at Migi zii wa sin , or Eagle Rock, a sacred site to the Anishinaabe. Rio Tinto plans to blast a mine portal into Eagle Rock.

For nearly five weeks, a multicultural group of campers held traditional ceremonies and planted a large community garden in an area bulldozed by the company.
