The author, associate professor of Christian social ethics and director of the Center for Ethics and Values at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, Illinois, gives an overview of the various reproductive technologies (including IVF, surrogacy and genetic manipulation) and a critique of the dominant ethical framework in which they are assessed what professor Waters calls "procreative liberty." This approach, he argues, has distinct limitations because of its emphasis on an excessive individualism that divides the reproductive process into a series of isolated tasks.
