The Social Security Administration (SSA) must move toward processing at least 90% of all transactions electronically in the near future, according to a report adopted by an SSA advisory committee.

According to the "Re-imaging Social Security" report, hospitals would create an electronic medical record for each individual at birth and send information about those births to SSA, which would then create a password-protected electronic account for each child, Government Computer News (GCN) said.

Adults could log into their personal account to verify information or make changes regarding job verification, disability, or retirement. The report envisions SSA communicating electronically with Medicare and private doctors and hospitals to obtain individuals' medical information if necessary.
