Capacity Building Grants for Non-Land Grant

Scope: The Agriculture Department’s National Institute
of Food and Agriculture seeks applications for the
Capacity Building Grants for Non-Land Grant Colleges
of Agriculture (NLGCA) Program announcement
to NLGCA institutions to assist in maintaining and
expanding their capacity to conduct education, research
and outreach/extension activities related to food,
agriculture, natural resources and human sciences.
Deadline: Oct. 28, 2020.
Funds: $4.7 million total. The maximum project period is
36 months.
Eligibility: NLGCAs certied by NIFA at the time of
application.
Areas: USDA said funding may be used to successfully
compete for funds from federal grants and other sources
to carry out educational, research and outreach/
extension activities that address priority concerns of
national, regional, state and local interest; disseminate
information relating to priority concerns to interested
members of the agriculture, renewable resources and
other relevant communities; the public; and any other
interested entity; and encourage members of the
agriculture, renewable resources and other relevant
communities to participate in priority education,
research and outreach/extension activities by providing
matching funding to leverage grant funds.

Scope: The Agriculture Department’s National Institute
of Food and Agriculture seeks applications for the
Renewable Resources Extension Act—National Focus
Funds Projects announcement to provide funds for pilot
projects.
Deadline: June 28, 2020.
Funds: $300,000 total for up to four awards ranging
from $50,000 to $100,000.
Eligibility: 1862 and 1890 land-grant institutions.
Areas: USDA said pilot projects should address emerging
forest and rangeland resource issues, have national or
regional relevancy or develop new and innovative projects
that can be replicated at other institutions.

Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grants
(USDA)
Scope: The Agriculture Department’s Utilities Programs
seeks applications for the Distance Learning and
Telemedicine Grants announcement to enable and
improve distance learning and telemedicine services in
rural areas.
Deadline: July 13, 2020.
Funds: $40 million total for 200 awards ranging from
$50,000 to $1 million.
Eligibility: Colleges and universities; for-prot
organizations; nonprot organizations; and state, local,
special district and Native American tribal governments.
Areas: USDA said grants may be used to increase rural
access to education, training and health care resources
that are otherwise unavailable or limited in scope.

Cochran Fellowship Program (USDA)
Scope: The Agriculture Department seeks applications
for the FY2020 Cochran Fellowship Program
announcement to train agriculturalists from middle-
income countries, emerging markets and emerging
democracies.
Deadline: Sept. 30, 2020.
Funds: $8 million for up to 54 awards of up to $150,000.
Eligibility: U.S. state cooperative institutions or other
colleges and universities in the United States.
Areas: USDA said training opportunities are for senior
and midlevel specialists and administrators working in
agricultural trade and policy; agribusiness development;
management; animal, plant and food sciences;
extension services; agricultural marketing; and many
other areas. Individuals selected for Cochran trainings
come from both the public and private sectors. All
training occurs in the United States. Training programs
are designed and organized in conjunction with U.S.
universities, USDA and other government agencies,
agribusinesses and consultants.
