Remington announced in December that the U.S. government has approved the company's 2013 Small Business Subcontracting Plan. The program outlines how Remington will leverage small businesses, such as "service-disabled, veteran-owned" and "women-owned," in the process of manufacturing firearms.

Company officials say the growth of Remington's Defense Division, coupled with strong domestic and international commercial sales, has opened the door to relationships between the company and small businesses.
