Remembering our allies.

I was quite pleased to learn about the Meeting of Consultation of Ministers of Foreign Affairs at the OAS Hall of Americas and the strong position they took in response to the tragic events of September 11, to "repudiate the attacks and strengthen their efforts against terrorism."

Some of us in the United States feel that we are forced to stand alone. It is good to be reminded that the nations of this Hemisphere are our natural allies. It is also good for us to remember that we share a unique, common heritage with the other nations of the Americas and that when we place the best interests of those allies ahead of our self-interest, as we did with the Alliance for Progress, we are more likely to improve the human condition of our nations' peoples.
