In his January column, Dave Zirin pointed out that the Mormon Church recently gave nearly $18 million to finance passage of California's Proposition 8, which prohibits gay marriage ("Challenging the Mormon Church"). Zirin could have also included the financial investment of the Roman Catholic Church in Proposition 8. Although Catholics view Mormons as a non-Christian sect, they don't mind linking hearts, arms, and wallets with them in blocking sinful gays from making a mockery of marriage.
