* The SEC posted on its Web site answers to frequently asked questions about a rule known as regulation FD (for "fair disclosure").

Approved by the SEC in August, the rule took effect October 23, 2000. It prohibits U.S. public companies from disseminating important information to securities analysts, institutional investors and others before releasing it to the general public.
