U.K. should step up spending on advanced biofuels, report says The U.K. will need to spend millions on advanced biofuels to meet green targets for transportation by 2020, a report found. "The U.K. has ambitious carbon-reduction plans, and this report highlights the necessity for increased investment in advanced biofuels, which could meet almost half of our renewable transport needs by the end of the decade," said Jeremy Tomkinson, CEO of the organization that released the report. Europe orders airports to remove X-ray scanners. New European rules require European airports to remove X-ray scanners because the scanners create health risks. The same type of scanners are used in U.S. airports. The Transportation Security Administration did not respond to the European rule. However, it has defended the safety of the scanners in the past. Pact with Europe allows U.S. to keep passengers' data for 15 years The U.S. may keep airline passengers' data for up to 15 years and use it for terrorism-related investigations under a new agreement reached between the U.S. and the European Commission. After 15 years, the U.S. must delete the data. European officials had objected to gathering personal data because of privacy concerns. As part of the agreement, the two sides agreed to limit the amount of time the U.S. may use the data to investigate serious crimes other than terrorism to 10 years. Nov 14, 2011
