Region II breaks the bank at its banner event in Atlantic City, NJ.

On June 17-18, 2008, TEI Region II held its Third Regional Tax Forum, sponsored by KPMG LLP and Sutherland, at the Borgata Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The two-day program for tax executives provided top flight instruction into current tax developments, planning, and legislative changes. The gathering built on the success of the last two years and met with increased acclaim. Almost 120 tax professionals attended. Laurie Phelps, 2007-2008 Region II Vice President, coordinated the event with the assistance of Tony Bernice (New Jersey Chapter) and Ray Gwydir (New York Chapter)--immediate previous RVPs. The Borgata, with its assorted activities and proximity to the Boardwalk and ocean, proved an attractive setting for this year's Forum.

Attending the Forum were a number of distinguished speakers--Shirley Grimmett, TEI Tax Counsel, addressed the luncheon, and introduced LMSB Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Paul DeNard for the keynote address. Mr. DeNard spoke of the challenges facing today's tax executive, emphasizing the need for cooperation and understanding between the tax community and the Internal Revenue Service. In attendance was Mike Murphy, the popular former Executive Director of TEI and John Kuchinski, Tax PIC for the New Jersey Business Unit of KPMG. KPMG and Sutherland shared the responsibilities, with 13 speakers each and addressed such timely topics as "Tax Department Transformation" (with a corporate panel); "Worker Classification"; "Economic Substance"; "Executive Compensation Planning"; "Planning with Partnerships" and "M&A Planning", along with sessions on...
