It was with great interest that I read Jay White's article about pro bono in the January issue. In 1982, I and several of my colleagues petitioned the Florida Supreme Court to amend The Florida Bar integration rules to require "mandatory pro bono." This is: If you want to practice law in Florida, donate 25 hours a year in pro bono work or $500 per year to a legal services program. The Supreme Court rejected the petition (432 So. 2d 39).
