Red Ball Express Winners Announced.

Donald Overton and Henry Hodges were announced as the 2023 recipients of the Red Ball Express Award at NDIA's Tactical Wheeled Vehicles Conference in Columbus, Ohio, in February.

Overton currently serves as Transportation Requirements Branch Chief for Army Futures Command Sustainment Capability Development and Integration Directorate. Entering civil service in 2009, he previously served on active duty with the Army for 28 years.

Enlisting in the Army in 1974 as an armor crewmember, Overton rose to the rank of staff sergeant before being commissioned as an artillery officer in 1987. After completing officer basic school, he was assigned to a lance battery in Gessen, Germany. Holding several troop and battalion leadership positions to include assembly and transportation platoon leader and battalion maintenance officer, Overton was transferred to the Transportation Corps.

Overton's branch is responsible for developing requirements for all Army transportation systems to include tactical wheeled vehicles, watercraft systems and autonomous ground and aerial resupply systems.

Hodges, the second recipient of the Red Ball Express award, is the president of the Nevada Automotive Test Center, a three-generation family business founded by his parents in 1957.

Hodges has more than 50 years of ground vehicle design, fabrication and test experience, starting at the age of 14 when he gathered soil strength data used in the development of the original NATO reference mobility model.
