Cook Inlet Region Inc., an Anchorage-based regional Alaska Native corporation, recently reported it achieved a record $434 million in profit last year, setting a record for Native corporations in the state and shadowing its 2000 profit report of $102 million.

The corporation said profits grew dramatically after it sold off investments in VoiceStream Wireless Corp. and the corporation paid its shareholders two special dividends totaling $65,000 for the typical shareholder holding 100 shares in December 2000 and May 2001.
