Reconstructive Transplant, Investigator-

Scope: The Defense Department’s U.S. Army Medical
Research Acquisition Activity seeks applications for
the Reconstructive Transplant, Investigator-Initiated
Research Award announcement to support studies that
have the potential to make an important contribution to
reconstructive transplant research, patient care and/or
quality of life.
Deadline: Pre-applications, Aug. 19, 2020; proposals,
Nov. 12, 2020.
Funds: Approximately $7.5 million for six Reconstructive
Transplant Investigator-Initiated Research Award
applications.
Eligibility: Unrestricted.
Areas: DOD said applicants must address at least one
of the FY20 RTRP Focus Areas: reducing the risks
of vascularized composite allotransplantation (VCA)-
associated immunosuppression, such as dening
the unique mechanisms of VCA immunogenicity
or developing novel approaches for improving VCA
immune tolerance; developing reliable noninvasive
methods or tools for monitoring VCA graft rejection,
such as developing reliable noninvasive biomarkers for
monitoring chronic VCA graft rejection in a large animal
model; and advancing existing or developing innovative
ex vivo tissue-preservation strategies to extend the
timeline between procurement and transplantation,
such as developing novel approaches and models for
perfused, hypothermic, high subzero and low subzero,
or static preservation strategies.

Vannevar Bush Faculty Fellowship (DOD)
Scope: The Defense Department’s Office of Naval
Research seeks applications for the Vannevar
Bush Faculty Fellowship (VBFF) announcement for
distinguished researchers for the purpose of conducting
innovative basic research in areas of interest to DOD
and fostering long-term relationships between the VBFF
Fellows and DOD.
Deadline: White papers, Aug. 28, 2020; proposals, Jan.
15, 2021.
Funds: $3 million total for awards with project periods of
up to ve years.
Eligibility: U.S. colleges and universities with doctoral
degree-granting programs.
Areas: DOD said areas of interest include but are
not limited to: Area 1: Applied Mathematics and
Computational Science, Area 2: Networks and Articial

Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (EPA)
Scope: The Environmental Protection Agency’s Great
Lakes Fish Monitoring and Surveillance Program
(GLFSMP) seeks applications for the Great Lakes
Restoration Initiative for a project to monitor the
temporal trends of persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic
chemicals in sh in the Great Lakes.
Deadline: Sept. 21, 2020.
Funds: Approximately $6 million for one cooperative
agreement over a ve-year period.
Eligibility: Colleges and universities; nonprot
organizations; and state, local and Native American
tribal governments and organizations.
Areas: EPA said applicants must demonstrate how
they will: analyze homogenized sh tissue from all 10
GLFMSP stations, perform chemical analyses to retain
comparability and continuity with historical GLFMSP
data and submit quality-assured analytical results to
EPA within 10 months of receipt of samples.

Equitable development and environmental
justice in browneld communities (EPA)
Scope: The EPA’s Office of Brownelds and Land
Revitalization seeks applications for the FY2021 Supporting
Equitable Development and Environmental Justice in
Brownelds Communities to provide training, research and
technical assistance to facilitate the inventory of browneld
sites, site assessments, remediation of browneld sites,
community involvement or site preparation.
Deadline: Sept. 21, 2020.
Funds: $600,000 total for one award with a project
period of up to one year.
Eligibility: Nonprot organizations and state, local and
Native American tribal governments and agencies,
among others.
Areas: EPA said funding may be used for direct costs
necessary to provide browneld technical assistance
identied in the approved workplan. This includes
eligible programmatic costs necessary to perform
projects, such as: costs for personnel, technical
experts, materials, supplies, room rentals, travel and
transportation expenses.
