Recommended changes to unemployment benefits approved.

Ohio's Unemployment Compensation Advisory Council has approved recommendations that would increase benefits for unemployed workers receiving Social Security, and make it easier for others to qualify for benefits, according to the Dayton Business Journal.

The changes, which have been previously approved by Ohio legislators, will go into effect Jan. 1. The changes include:

* Deducting only half the amount of recipients' Social Security benefit from their monthly unemployment benefit if they receive both. If the unemployment trust fund is determined to be at a safe level, the state would not deduct any Social Security benefits.
