Alaska Business Monthly is proud to announce Jack Anderson as this year's recipient of the 2001 Lifetime Business Achievement Medal. This medal awarded each October, celebrates Alaskan pioneers who have made a difference in the state's economic development.

Jack Anderson is a truly great Alaskan. There's scarcely a project or a program in Alaska that has not some how been touched by his talent, his energy and his devotion to a policy of "Let's make a better Alaska.' wore than 40 years ago, Anderson organized the Alaska Chamber of Commerce. At statehood, it became the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce. At the time he was serving as chairman of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, a position he has held more than once.

As chamber chair he fostered and encouraged the need for expanding terminals, fuel capabilities and the entire Anchorage International Airport to accommodate international air cargo carriers. He also pioneered the very first report on the road to Whittier, now a reality.

Anderson was one of he principal founders of Alaska Methodist University when, at his own expense, he and Louis Simpson traveled throughout the country raising $600,000 that purchased the land for what is now Alaska Pacific University.
