In response to Sonia Shah's article ("Veiled Solidarity," January issue), I believe any woman who finds herself empowered by wearing the Islamic hijab, whether a burqa, chador, or a plain scarf, has a poor view of herself. And she truly accepts that she is nothing but a sex object for the pleasure of the male sex.

Wouldn't it have been fantastic if Muslim women had shed their veils in solidarity with us for just one day after the attack on September 11? After all, it was their Muslim brothers who attacked the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and had in mind to kill even more if it were not for the bravery of the passengers of the fourth plane. In addition, Muslims are in our country because had they stayed in theirs they would not have survived their militant governments and religious leaders. So...
