Indiana's quiet heroes: mid-market companies and those practicing continuous improvement.

NEWSPAPERS, BUSINESS magazines and "news blasts" on the Internet have brought to our attention the success Indiana has enjoyed of late in attracting a myriad of new business enterprises to communities across the state. Additionally, there has been significant progress in encouraging and helping promising startup and early-stage companies that are beginning to get off the ground. These positive developments are great news for Indiana's future and have been made possible by the visions and hard work of many.

As new companies have been developed, Indiana has counted on thousands of small to medium-sized companies, both for-profit and not-for-profit, that have quietly continued to grow, add employment, contribute to local communities and statewide projects and support local charities. These "unsung heroes" often grow through sheer hard work, tough competitiveness and an unrelenting focus on continuous improvement.

While "continuous improvement" has itself become a catch phrase, there are some companies large and small who have taken this concept and driven it into the very culture of their organization.

Focus on this discipline has launched new divisions, new products, new technologies, cost savings, additional employment, improved competitive positions and has met or even exceeded customer needs.
