The significant benefits of having legal professionals involved in the lawmaking process at the State Capitol are not lost on one of the newest lawyer-legislators in the Georgia General Assembly. Nor are the challenges of maintaining a busy law practice during the legislative session.

Rep. Sylvia Wayfer Baker of Douglasville was elected in November to the Georgia House of Representatives from the 64th District, covering parts of Douglas and Paulding counties. Baker, whose law practice is based in Alabama, is a member of the House committees on Code Revision, Defense &Veterans Affairs, and Special Rules.

Contacted by the Georgia Bar Journal for her thoughts as a first-year lawyerlegislator, Baker shared her perspective by answering the following questions.
