The

of

Science
at
the
University
of
Arkansas,
Fayette-
ville,
held
a
symposium
on
Africa
from
January
31
to
February
2,
1974.
The
focus
on
the
Symposium
was
on
the
&dquo;Problems
of
Nation-Building
in
Africa.&dquo;
The
major
guest
speakers
at
the
Symposium
included:
the
Nigerian
Ambassador
to
Washington,
the
Am-
bassador
of
Ghana
to
the
United
Na-
tions,
Professor
L.
GRAY
COWAN,
Dean
of
the
Graduate
School,
State
University
of
New
York
at
Albany,
and
Assistant
Secretary
for
African
Affairs
from
the
State
Deparment,
Washington,
D. C. ;
PAUL
DANQUAH,
Esquire,
In-
formation
Officer
from
the
World
Bank.
The
Symposium
was
directed
by
Profes-
sor
N.
POBBI-ASARE.
DIPLOMAT-IN-RESIDENCE
For
the
first
time
since
the
beginning
of
the
Diplomat-in-Residence
program
by
the
State
Department
in
1964,
the
University
of
Arkansas
is
participating
in
it.
MR.
LARUE
LUTKINS,
a
senior
diplomate
from
the
U.
S. Foreign
Serv-
ice,
is
accredited
to
serve
as
diplomat-
in-residence
with
the
Department
of
Political
Science
this
year.
Before
his
present
assignment,
Mr.
Lutkins
was
the
Consul
General
in
Johannesburg,
South
Africa.
FACULTY
