Gov. Frank H. Murkowski has named Quinlan Steiner, a fourth-generation Alaskan, lawyer and experienced public defender in Anchorage, state director of the Public Defender Agency.

Steiner, 39, has practiced law at the public defender agency for seven years. He earned his legal degree from the Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College in 1998. He graduated from Seattle University with a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1989.
