ANDREW GILLUM: The mayor of Tallahassee pulled off a stunning upset in Florida's crowded Democratic primary for governor in August against several wealthy candidates with much larger campaign chests. After several election cycles of centrist Democrats losing to Republicans in the Florida governor's race, Gillum wants to prove that a progressive platform is the best path forward for Democrats.

"Our current governor only cares for the wealthy and well connected while the rest of us, everyday working people, are suffering," Gillum tells The Progressive. "That's unacceptable. When we get to the governor's office, we are going to address the issues of everyday working Floridians. That's where I come from, and I'm going to take that experience to be a better governor."

AMMAR CAMPA-NAJJAR: Endorsed by Our Revolution, the Democratic candidate in California's Fiftieth Congressional District is taking on incumbent California Republican Congressman Duncan Hunter. On August 21, Hunter and his wife were indicted for misusing campaign funds on vacations and other personal expenses, making the race competitive in a Republican stronghold.

RASHIDA TLAIB: The second member of the Democratic Socialists of America to win a Congressional primary in 2018, Tlaib will coast unopposed in the general election to replace Representative John Conyers, Democrat of Michigan, who vacated the seat after resigning in December 2017 over sexual harassment allegations.
