Given the roll-call of bankrupt or crippled firms in the energy industry -- Enron, Dynegy Corp., The Williams Cos. -- it's entirely predictable that the public markets want nothing to do with the industry in general. Yet a major private equity firm has found considerable interest and has closed on a $950 million fund to make investments in power companies -- proof that turnaround-minded investors are interested in even deeply troubled sectors.

ArcLight Capital Partners, LLC, a Boston-based private equity firm, earlier this fall closed on ArcLight Energy Partners Fund I, L.P. ArcLight established the fund to capitalize on attractive investment opportunities in the rapidly evolving power, utility, and energy industry.
