Balancing one's work and family is more important to American workers than job security, working conditions, and relationships with co-workers and supervisors, according to a national poll of 1,000 adults in the workforce. Yet, few people who participated in the study, Work Trends: America's Attitudes About Work, Employers and Government, said they have the balance they desire, the National Institute of Business Management, McLean, Va., reports.

"U.S. workers are generally satisfied with their jobs across income, race, and gender lines," notes Carl Van Horn, co-director of the study and director of the John J.
