Michael Vandenbergh is the David Daniels Allen Distinguished Chair in Law

at Vanderbilt University Law School. An award-winning teacher, his scholarship

examines how insights from law, policy, and social and behavioral science can

address environmental problems and bypass political polarization. One of the most

cited law professors in the peer-reviewed and legal literatures, his book on private

governance with physicist Jonathan Gilligan was named as one of the two dozen

most important environmental policy books of the last 50 years. He is a member of

the American College of Environmental Lawyers and the Board on Environmental

Change and Society of the National Academies. Before teaching he served as a

partner at La tham & Watkins and as Chief of Staff of the United S tates Environmental

Protection Agency.

Sarah E. Light is the Mitchell J. Blutt and Margo Krody Blutt Presidential Professor,

Professor of Legal Studies & Business Ethics at the Wharton School, University of

Pennsylvania, where she is co-Director of the Wharton Climate Center. Professor

Light’s research examines issues at the intersection of environmental law and

corporate susta inability, and has been published in l eading law journals. She teaches

undergraduates, MBA students, and Executives in Environmental Management, Law,

and Policy, as well as Business Responsibility to the Environment. Prior to joining

the faculty of Wharton, Professor Light served for ten years as an Assistant United

States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and for the last four of those

years as the Chief of the Envi ronmental Protection Unit. Professo r Light holds an A.B.

from Harvard University, a J.D. from Yale Law School, and an M. Phil in Politics from

Oxford University, where she was a Rhodes Scholar.

James Salzman is the Donald Bren Distinguished Professor of Environmental Law

with joint appointments at the UCLA School of Law and at the Bren School of the

Environment at UC Santa Barbara. His broad-ranging scholarship has addressed

topics spanning drinking water, policy instrument design, and creating markets for

ecosystem ser vices. One of the most cited authors in th e field, his articles have been

downloaded over 115,000 times. The first Harvard graduate to earn joint degrees

in law and engineering, prior to teaching he served as the European Environmental

Manager for SC Johnson. Students have twice

voted him Professor of the Year.
