Preface

This book represents the collaborative effort of the Health Law Committee of the

American Bar Association’s Section of Litigation. The Committee is dedicated

both to the development of health law and to educating its members about best

practices in litigating health law claims. The Committee conceived this book as a

practical guide for lawyers who are either beginning a health law practice or han-

dling a health law case in an unfamiliar area. This book does not assume that the

reader is on either side of “the v.” Instead, it is written to provide guidance regard-

less of which party the reader represents. While there are many topics that are not

covered in this book, the Committee believes it is a good place to start. We hope

you agree.

The opinions expressed in this book are those of the authors alone and are

not necessarily the opinions or positions of their firms or their clients. Similarly,
